Every Christmas has one box that's packed after everything else.

The ornaments are already away.

The tree is down.
The lights have been coiled.

What's left are the odds and ends—half-used rolls of wrapping paper, a discount store wreath, tissue paper that still smells faintly of pine, and little decorations that somehow never made it back to their proper places.

Lavinia simply folded the flaps shut and wrote nothing on the outside.

When Leona lifted the lid decades later, it felt less like finding Christmas decorations...
