This little snowman greeted winter from a windowsill in Brogden House year after year, a bright red cardinal perched faithfully on his shoulder.
When Christmas was over, Lavinia wrapped him in tissue, tucked him into a plain little box, and carried him upstairs to the attic.
There he waited quietly through every passing season.
When Leona opened the box, she couldn't help but smile and hear Lavinia softly whisper, "when cardinals appear, angels are near"
She's still not sure she's ready to part with this one.
